2016 BNC Call For Entries
Newspapers Atlantic is pleased to announce the launch of the 2016 Better Newspapers Competition. We invite all of our members in good standing to submit entries for this annual competition. The awards celebrate excellence in community media across Atlantic Canada.
Newspapers Atlantic members have until Friday, January 29th, 2016 to submit their best work for the 2016 Better Newspapers Competition.
The awards will be handed out on Saturday, April 23, 2016 in Halifax. Stay tuned for exciting details on the 2016 annual conference, we have big plans this year, so get your entries in now!

The members of the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA) are proud to recognize individuals for long service to the community newspaper industry and those who have made a distinguished contribution to the association. The Board of Directors presents awards to deserving individuals in the following categories:
Gold Quill Award
The Gold Quill Award recognizes service of 50 years or more. It is presented to any individual who has been actively engaged in the newspaper industry or an individual who in the view of the nominating regional affiliated association has a made a substantial contribution to the newspaper industry. The purpose of this honour is to pay tribute to those who have served Canada’s newspaper industry regardless of position or title for a minimum 50 years.
Silver Quill Award
The Silver Quill Award recognizes service of 25 years or more. It is presented to any individual who has been actively engaged in the newspaper industry, or an individual who in the view of the nominating regional affiliated association has made a substantial contribution to the newspaper industry. The purpose of this honour is to pay tribute to those who have served Canada’s newspaper industry regardless of position or title for a minimum 25 years.
Bronze Quill Award
Publishers of member newspapers may recognize long and distinguished service of staff members who do not qualify for Gold or Silver Quills by presenting them with a Bronze Quill award.
Nominations for Gold Quills and Silver Quills must be submitted to a regional association for review prior to being forwarded to the CCNA Board of Directors for consideration. Silver Quill certificates and Gold Quill plaques are presented at regional or national conventions.
Nominations for Bronze Quills are submitted to the CCNA office and do not require approval by theCCNA Board of Directors. Nomination forms may be obtained from the Newspapers Canada office or downloaded from this page.
The President’s Gold Quill is presented to the outgoing CCNA President at the completion of his or her term in recognition of their commitment to the community newspaper industry and their dedicated service as president of the association. The presentation is made at the annual INK+BEYOND conference.

Honorary Life Membership
Honorary Life Membership may be awarded by the Board of Directors to General Members who have performed meritorious services beyond the normal and regular duties of membership in and on behalf of the Association, and to friends of the Association who, over a period of years, have contributed their support and understanding toward the improvement of community journalism in Canada. Nominations for Honorary Life Membership may be submitted by any General Member, Affiliated Member or Participating Member.
Nominations must be made in writing, outlining the nominee’s qualifications and biography. If possible, a photograph of the nominee should accompany the nomination.
Nominations forwarded to the national office before December 31 of any year will be considered by the Executive Committee at its first meeting for approval. If an Honorary Life Membership has been or is granted in respect of a newspaper published by such an individual, the Honorary Life Membership granted as aforesaid shall not relieve against the payment of fees for the membership in respect of such newspaper. Presentation of Honorary Life Memberships will be made at the annual meeting. Honorary Life Members shall enjoy the same rights and privileges as General Members.
