Advocate Media Inc. announces acquisition of LighthouseNOW

Advocate Media Inc. and Advocate Printing and Publishing have announced the acquisition of LighthouseNOW (Lighthouse Publishing). Sean Murray, president and CEO of Advocate, says his company has been in negotiations with Lighthouse for several months and is pleased to have completed the purchase this summer.

“After decades of mutual cooperation, I’m pleased Lighthouse has agreed to join the Advocate group.” Murray says. “I believe the resulting synergies will enhance our offerings in all the communities we serve. We constantly call on politicians and organizations to make bold decisions that are best for our sustainable future. Companies must make similar decisions. I’m thankful Lynn Hennigar choose Advocate for LighthouseNow’s bold move forward.”


LighthouseNOW, under the ownership and leadership of Lynn Hennigar, is well-known for its dedication to communities throughout the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Operating out of offices in Bridgewater, Lighthouse has long been respected for it excellence in the newspaper industry. The company has been held by the Hennigar family for 47 years and is one of the most celebrated community newspapers in Canada.

Advocate Media’s presence in Nova Scotia includes: The Port Hawkesbury Reporter, The Pictou Advocate, Truro Hub Now, The Enfield Weekly Press, The Fall River Laker, The Tatamagouche Light and, in New Brunswick, The St. Croix Courier and the Courier Weekend.


In addition to newspapers, Advocate Media affiliate Metro Guide Publishing is a specialty, custom publishing division with titles including: East Coast Living, Halifax Magazine, Where Halifax and Our Children. Advocate also operates the distribution company Flyer Services Ltd. based in Coldbrook, N.S.
